Grid - I like Blackburn we just missed.
Why Blackburn?
I hated Man. United they acted like the Yankees.  Years ago, Blackburn was pretty bad.  Then they got better.  Last year in the top six. This year not as well top ten .  I like the rose too.   I love soccer and went to the World Cup at Stanford.  Brazil was great to watch.  I love the fans from Brazil.
Brazil is just a soccer-crazy nation all the way  ;). Chelsea and Abramovich makes Steinbrenner and the Yankees look like penny-pinching amatuers and Man U have tried their best to follow suit. Soccer salaries are insane......  I'll keep my fingers crossed for Blackburn (except when they play Liverpool)

Grid - My two favorite team are Blackburn and whomever is play Man United.  Have you gone to the World Cup yet??  I saw the own goal by the Colombians.  The guy later got killed.  They take their sports seriously down there.  Brazil is my adopted team.  I watch the kids in the Olympics at Stanford then the men in the World Cup at Stanford Center 25 rows up.

I have never been to the World Cup although the chance was there when they played in Germany - which is only a few hours away - last year. The way some cultures define themselves by sports is just mind-boggling. I remember the Colombian own goal all right and the murder of the player who scored it. There was also the incident at the cricket world cup where the coach of Pakistan was killed after a defeat to a suspected inferior team from Ireland.

Brazil in the World Cup must have been an amazing experience in '94.....like any year  ;)

Grid - July 4th 1994 USA 0 vs Brazil 1.  It was a great match.  Watching Brazil at stanford was great. Romário was a special player.

...and if I remember correct it was one of the most difficult games Brazil had other than the finals v Italy. Romario was a special player (and you could argue he still is) considering his recent celebration of - by his own accounts - his 1000th goal!

Grid - One of the Brazil's player got red carded in the first half.  An elbow to an USA players face.  Blood all over.  The USA played hard but was no match for them.

I didn't remember that. I don't know if that was the case then but sometimes those South American tempers just get the better of them  :-\  Of course it is also what sometimes makes them so great and spectacular to watch.

Sadly no and my hopes are fading. My travelling companion just told me about a report of ticket prices having tripled already due to the high demand  :(  The second lottery round with us (mainland Europeans) are still to be held though......

With my plane ticket and hotel booked for December I'll see how much I can save up by October. If I believe I have any chance of getting a ticket at the stadium I'll be there for sure. I wouldn't miss the first regular season NFL game held in Europe if I can help it......

Thank you for the link, dr. Nick. I am not really surprised to see the prices being so high so I'll set my alarm clock to wake me a little before bidding deadline.

I missed my 3 am wake up call  :-X  :-[  Still with prices over 400 $ I am hard pushed. Just before the weekend I ordered my SF trip in December at 1.800 $ so I am back to saving up a bit  :-\

It is! But with the priorities in order.....the 9ers trip booked and paid I can turn my attention to this "first-in-a-lifetime"  ;) experience. If I have any shot I'll be there!

I can relate to that but remember my travelling cost are way down for a small trip to London. I can get a round trip to London at less than $ 100 compared to the $ 1800 for my december adventure  ;)

Just so much more to look forward to when you have to save up the money over 2-3 years. December will be my 4th visit - 2nd to SF - since '96. It'll only get worse now once the kids are getting old enough to come along  ;)
